Diz Shirley
7th February 1943 – 26th December 2018

Diz's family would love you to join us, if you are able, for a service to celebrate the life of this very special person, at the Parish Church of St Michael & All Angels, Great Wolford, CV36 5NQ at 2.30pm on Thursday, 10th January. Many of you will recall that this is where Diz and I married, 20 years ago.

I am in no doubt that Diz would want you to be happy that you knew her, not sad that she has gone: consequently, please don't feel a need to wear black (unless it's a little number by Jean Muir, obviously!). Car parking will be available at nearby Manor Farm, and will be signposted. For the many of us for whom it is a concern, rest assured that there will be loos at the Church, albeit of the temporary variety!

Should you wish to say a personal farewell to Diz, and perhaps offer a prayer, I shall be keeping her company in the Church between 10.00am and 12.00 noon.

Shortly thereafter, Diz will be be interred in the Churchyard at a private ceremony for the immediate family: should you live locally and hear the highland pipes, that will be us!

We would be grateful, therefore, if you did not arrive at Church for the service before 1.30pm.

Should you be coming a distance and wish lunch before the service, or perhaps to while away a little time in congenial surroundings, I can heartily recommend The Red Lion Inn, about 3 miles distant in Long Compton.

Diz loved her garden, so you would be very welcome to bring flowers with you to the Church, or to have them delivered to the Funeral Director in nearby Brailes before 9.00am or on the previous day. I can particularly recommend two local florists: one in Moreton-in-Marsh, the other in Shipston on Stour.

For those who would prefer to donate to the charity with which Diz was so actively involved, the British Lung Foundation, there will an opportunity to do so on leaving the Church; alternatively, donations may be made in Diz's memory online at www.blf.org.uk/donate/. If you are a UK taxpayer, please consider "Gift Aiding" your donation.

After the service, you are all welcome to join the family for light refreshments, and a glass or two of something bubbly (Diz would expect nothing less!) at The Wolfords Village Hall, Little Wolford, CV36 5ND. It would be helpful from a catering perspective, but by no means essential, for us to have some idea in advance of how many might wish to come along.

Please don't hesitate do call, text or email me (I'm bearing up pretty well, all things considered) if you have any questions regarding these arrangements.

With love, David
